Status of China Spallation Neutron Source and Back-n White Neutron Source Projects
In this seminar, the general aspects and construction status of the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) and the associated project “Back-n white neutron source (Back-n)” will be reported. CSNS is the first spallation neutron source in China, and also the largest single facility in budget ever constructed. It supports mainly multidisciplinary research based on neutron scattering techniques.
The project is in commissioning and close to its expected completion in March 2018. The design goal is 1.6 GeV in proton energy and 100 kW in beam power at Phase-I and will be upgraded to 500 kW at Phase-II. Other application platforms than neutron scattering are also planned, and white neutron sources for nuclear data measurements are among them.
A project called Back-n White Neutron Source exploiting back-streaming neutrons is also in construction, and expected to perform day-one experiments from December 2017. With its very intense flux, good energy spectrum and time structure, together with planned seven advanced spectrometers, Back-n will be a very powerful facility for different neutron data measurements.
