The PARIS multidetector, which the IPN is playing an essential role in constructing, is intended for gamma photon detection with high efficiency and excellent time resolution. The physics programme supported by this development is primarily oriented toward using VAMOS for on-line gamma spectroscopy of the residues of deeply inelastic collisions at forward angles and the observation of E1 high energy transitions associated with the de-excitation of pygmy dipole resonance. As with the FAZIA situation, a short-term physics programme can be developed at Tandem using the prototype, especially if coupled with the ORGAM3 array.
