Chemistry of actinides and lanthanides in molten salts at high temperature

Objectives :

Molten salt reactor (GEN IV) :

Chemistry of the fuel salt LiF-ThF4-UF4. Study of separation processes such as reductive extraction (molten salt/liquid metal).

Corrosion studies (development of redox potential measurement in fluoride media and control of the fuel redox potential).

Reprocessing of transmutation targets (Mo) in chloride molten salt (SACSESS EURATOM project).

Coolant made of molten salt : NaNO3 molten salts.

Approach :

Study of redox and thermodynamical properties of Ans and Lns in molten salts. Calculation of reprocessing efficiency. Extraction tests. Corrosion studies.
